prelimBinaries
A preview of capabilities of Desktop Connection Library (DCL), a communication layer for Newton MessagePad. DCL Group members readied the following for download:
- Delivery - first Mac OS X native application for Newton package installation. Delivery still wears diapers but behid its modest UI is hidden an option to connect via AppleTalk, BSD Sockets or TCP/IP with Bonjour support.
- Dock TCP-IP for Newton - expands Newton Dock application to support TCP/IP with ZeroConf (or Bonjour) autosensing.
- NSOF To XML Converter - Mac OS (8 - X) application to convert Newton Notes .nwt documents to XML. That is, you can email yourself a Notes document from your Newton and turn it into XML, an ideal text format for further processing. To prove:
- DropNote - an AppleScript droplet, that turns your XML into HTML readable in any browser. Document retains all styles including custom fonts, even the position of a floating text in the document. Please compare the picture of the original note on Newton and the resulting HTML output.
- The conversion would not be possible without notes.xsl (download the target document or view its source), a stylesheet for the XML document. Conversion can be done using DropNote, or XML tools available on your platform. Or just link the XSL document in your XML files directly using
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="notes.xsl"?>, a modern web browser should show the HTML rendering. - Latest version of newtonscript.dtd (see below) also attached.
DCL doesn't limit itself to Mac OS X, the library is available on other platforms too. Above listed examples were compiled in a matter of few weeks, spare time. DCL is efficient, won't get stopped by Apple's built-in Dock encryption, and allows development of applications for data backup and synchronization and, thanks to its XML capabilities, integration with modern software on destop and internet.
newtonscript.dtd

You can review latest annotated version. More information on DCL (Desktop Connection Library) maintained by DCL Group here.
